At least ten people were killed in a cloudburst near the holy Amarnath gufa in south Kashmir on Friday evening. Police officials said that 25 tents and three community kitchens were destroyed in the incident. He said three people have been rescued. He said that the cloud burst at 5.30 pm amid heavy rain.

Ten people died in the incident and police, army and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) personnel are engaged in rescue operations, officials said. One team of NDRF is already present, while two more teams are reaching. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed grief over the incident. He tweeted, “Saddened by the incident of cloudburst near Shri Amarnath Cave. Condolences to the bereaved families. Spoke to Manoj Sinha ji and inquired about the situation.” The Prime Minister said, “Rescue and relief operations are on. All possible help is being provided to the affected people.”
Union Home Minister Amit Shah directed the central forces and the Jammu and Kashmir administration to expeditiously rescue the people affected by the cloudburst near the Amarnath cave. Shah tweeted that he took stock of the situation by speaking to Jammu and Kashmir Governor Manoj Sinha.
Shah said, “I have spoken to Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and inquired about the situation in relation to the sudden floods caused by cloudburst near the gufa of Baba Amarnath ji. NDRF, CRPF, BSF and local administration are engaged in rescue work. Saving people’s lives is our priority. I wish all the devotees well.” Sinha said that he is monitoring the situation and has directed all concerned departments to provide necessary assistance to the pilgrims.
