Former Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal died Tuesday at the age of 95. He was admitted to a private hospital in Mohali on Friday morning after his condition worsened. He served as Chief Minister of Punjab 5 times. The central government will declare a two-day national mourning.
Also in June 2022, he was hospitalized with chest pains.After some time he was released from the hospital. In September 2022 it was included in the PGI. Chandigarh after his health continued to deteriorate.
Inactive since last general election
Badal lost the Punjab Assembly elections in 2022. It was the first defeat of his political career. He did not want to stand for election due to his advanced age, but on the recommendation of Sukhbir Badal’s son and given the pitiful condition of Akali Dal in Punjab, Parkash Singh Badal entered the voting field.
Sarpanch Youngest and oldest candidate
Parkash Singh Badal entered politics in 1947. He fought for the Sarpanch election and won. Then he became the youngest Sarpanch. In 1957 he ran for election to the first Sejm. In 1969 he won again.Until 1969-70 he was Minister in Panchayat Raj, Animal Husbandry, Dairy Farming etc Ministries. He also became leader of the opposition in 1972, 1980 and 2002. When Morarji Desai was Chief Minister, he was also elected MP. He also became the highest-ranking candidate after running in the 2022 Punjab Assembly elections.
Campaign launched after wife dies of cancer
May 24, 2011 Surinder Kaur Badal, wife of former Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, died at PGI after a long battle with cancer. Surinder Kaur was 72 years old at the time. Surinder Kaur suffered from throat cancer. After the death of his wife, Prakash Singh Badal launched a cancer campaign as Chief Minister.
